At Walker’s way, we believe that our food choices are extremely powerful. The foods we choose to feed our children not only affect their health but also their energy, emotions and even their focus. Plants are medicine. Not only do they heal and prevent illness, but they also allow little bodies to perform and feel how nature intended: vibrant, full of energy, and without ailments. We all want what is best for our children and sometimes the information can be overwhelming, hard to understand and even contradictory. The goal of Walker’s Way is to help parents a.) Learn about the nutritional benefits of a whole foods, plant-based diet and b.) Provide guidance on meals, products and easy power food recipes.
I am Walker’s mom, Megan, creator of Walker’s Way. Like most moms, my child’s health is exceptionally important to me. I have a passion for sharing the benefits of a plant-based diet and how these foods hinder the development of chronic and degenerative diseases, including cancer, heart disease, inflammation, and diabetes.
Who else am I? I am a science teacher and certified to teach biology, chemistry and nutrition. Through those and countless hours of research and reading, I have developed a knowledge base that is second only to my passion for plant-based nutrition. I have read 28 books to date and hundreds of articles, all written by doctors with impressive backgrounds on plant-based nutrition, (i.e., Dr. Colin Campbell, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Barnard and Dr. Greger). My favorite sources are the Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine, the Cancer Institute, T. Colin Campell Nutrition Studies and articles submitted by prestigious universities such as Cornell, Harvard and Yale.
Through these sources, I have learned the role of macronutrients in the functioning of the body and also the role that nutrition plays in the development of diseases. I have also learned that even the containers, utensils and materials we use to prepare our food can be toxic to our children…as though we don’t have enough to worry and learn about! Just because it says BPA-free doesn’t mean toxin-free.
Walker is a Plant-Based Whole Foods toddler and is the inspiration behind Walker’s Way. At his 1-year old check-up, the doctor was astounded by his blood work and iron level. Using the exact words from doctor, “Walker’s blood work is perfect! His iron is the best I have ever seen at his age.” Walker has boundless amounts of energy, has the immunity of a shark (sharks almost never get sick), and is strong, vibrant, happy and focused. I credit all of these qualities to his diet and as a result call him my Plant-Based Warrior.
Walker does not have to be the only little warrior running around!
Through Walker’s Way, we hope to help create little plant based warriors one meal at a time.
